Britain’s Got Talent sax man seeks father

Julian Smith

Could Britain’s Got Talent pull off a double whammy by making not one but two dreams come true? We only mention it because apparently saxophonist Julian Smith is hoping his biological father will see him on the show and get in touch.

Sadly for him – and TV producers hoping for a ratings-grabbing fairytale reunion – this could prove unlikely, because the 39-year-old doesn’t even know his dad’s name, having been adopted by his stepfather David when Julian was just three.

"He knows nothing about his real dad,” said a friend. “He doesn't know his name and he's never even seen a photo. "He would love to know if his dad is even alive and whether he has any half brothers and sisters.”

Mum Ann is staying tight-lipped, but Julian is hoping his long-lost father will be inspired to contact him. “His secret hope is that someone will recognise him on TV and put him in touch with his dad,” said the pal. "If Julian makes it through his one wish, apart from winning, is that he can meet his dad."

Meanwhile, there’s no one on the planet in danger of failing to recognise Julian’s fellow contestant Susan Boyle – in fact, the singer has recently even been namechecked in an episode of The Simpsons.

A new clip shows Homer Simpson auditioning for a talent show, introducing himself by saying, “My name is Homer Simpson, I’m 39 years old and, well, I’ve never been kissed. My dream is to be a great singer like Susan Boyle.”

Said Su-Bo’s brother Gerry: “Susan does watch The Simpsons and she will be chuffed to bits to get in an episode. It is incredible how popular she has become in America.”
